The most unexpected joy of my acupuncture practice has been treating women who are seeking help with fertility and support during their pregnancy. To be shown a photo announcing a pregnancy, to be sent a message with a positive pregnancy test, to see a new life on a sonogram and to see and feel a baby move on a client's belly who has wished with all her heart for what seems like forever to her for this new life - is equally an incredible honor and a joy beyond words that I never imagined.
All of the photos here are memories from those moments with my clients.
Chinese Medicine has been safely and effectively supporting fertility and pregnancy for thousands of years, although this is not commonly known or understood in the West. Acupuncture, herbs and nutritional and lifestyle recommendations are all part of this.
Chinese Medicine is based on the Laws of Nature and works to remove the blockages and build the deficiencies that are at the root of fertility and pregnancy issues.
In treating anyone, Chinese Medicine looks at the individual as a whole in order to understand the underlying disharmony. This is just as true for fertility and pregnancy concerns as it is for any other concern brought to the treatment room.
I work with couples who are using natural fertility and pregnancy support only as well as those who are using Western fertility methods. Acupuncture is particularly helpful in supporting women undergoing Western fertility treatments ~ helping them recover from egg retrievals, dealing with symptoms from the pharmaceuticals used, emotionally for the entire process and to hold and support a healthy pregnancy to term.
I support my clients where they are and provide education of various options as I see pertains to their individual situations.
How can acupuncture and herbs help me with fertility?
Acupuncture and herbs (if needed) support the specific organ systems that in Chinese Medicine are considered most important to prepare the mother physically and emotionally for creating and carrying a new life.
Acupuncture has the ability to regulate the menstrual cycle naturally without the side effects of pharmaceuticals.
Although there are specific systems that relate most to fertility and pregnancy, the mother will feel her best and be able to give her best to a new life when she is treated as a whole according to her unique needs.
Are acupuncture and herbs safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Licensed Acupuncturists and properly trained Chinese Herbalists understand which points and herbs are safe and beneficial during this time. Always let your practitioner know if you are pregnant, or think you may be, so that he or she can provide the best care for you.
Benefits During Pregnancy
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very beneficial in nourishing a new mom after the birth process - specifically to rebuild blood and fluids that were lost during the process. Having this support assists physically and emotionally. In Chinese Medicine, blood has the charge of housing the mind. In this respect, it is easy to see why many women experience depression after giving birth and having lost blood. Chinese Medicine works beautifully to help rebuild these and support each mom uniquely on her journey.
